Hello! This little one externally pipped 36 hours ago and the membrane was bright white like parchment. I decided to open the hole a bit more this morning, at the 30 hour mark because I was worried she wasn't getting enough oxygen. She seemed to love that but it also confirmed she was shrink wrapped. I've been working gently to give her some room today and she looks like she's trying so hard to get out, but I also think she's not positioned correctly. Any advice? I've been reading up on hatching assistance and only went in when I thought it was necessary.

That is her little wing right over her bill. Her head is in the pointy end of the egg. Butt sticking out quite a bit. Pinkish membrane but no visible blood vessels - just covered in coconut oil to keep her moist and not sticking to the membrane.

Welcome to BYC. Can you take it out of the incubator and get some clear, close-up pictures?

Hi, I'd rather not take her out of the incubator right now since she's shrink wrapped and humidity is of the essence. I can provide additional photos in my next reply.

She seems alright where she is. That is her chest sticking out, not her butt.

Please do not assist further right now. She is stretching, and chewing, which means she’s still absorbing the yolk and not ready to hatch.

Thanks so much for your reply. I posted some more photos/videos in a thread reply. Definitely not taking her out! I could have sworn that was a booty its so pointy - not a chest. She's in the shell curled up like a cat that's shrimping. Her skull is by the pointy end and she's curled on herself. But I suppose you're right - because I didn't see a vent (not that I'd really know what to look for).

For now I am going to stop intervening and let her do her thing. We have 6 other eggs that are 8 days out from hatch. I just hope I didn't do too much, but excellent lesson if I did.
