Is this early sign of scaly leg mites?

If you zoom in, you can see that some of the scales where the leg meets the foot look maybe flaky? Especially on the first pic. I don't want to wait if it's mites until everyone is bad to treat. They're only four months old. So far, none of my chickens' legs have this look. Everyone free ranges during the day and then they are on sand in the run and coop, so I recognize that maybe that dries their skin some?

Some of it may be normal wear and tear but it won't hurt to give their legs a coat of Vaseline.

Be careful because their legs are fragile and break easily.
