Is this food okay?

I just got 3 baby chicks, next week I'll get 3 more. But I am worried my chicks aren't actually getting any food. The food just seems too big and hard for them but the people at the feed store said it's fine for them. They made more of a mess with it than they actually get to eat. Should I get a different kind? Add something to it? Can I grind it up to make it more of a powder smaller?

You can maybe make a mash. Add some water and set it back in their feeder.
