Could someone tell me if this is normal for my broody hen to go and roost up in the main coop with my only hybrid hen leaving her 4 week old chicks to sleep on their own on the ground floor in their own little temparay coop
and she has also started to lay eggs after 4 weeks having hatch her chicks

thanks..first time broody hen and chicks owner

I couldn't say if it was normal, but I would think 4 week old chicks would be OK if it's warm in your area. If not I would just give them choice of a lamp to get under, set high enough up so it's only about 70ish under it.

I've never had a broody but from what I've read on BYC, mother hens abandon their chicks at different ages, anywhere from almost immediately to (probably a silkie) waiting until the babies are nearly full-grown.

Yep, sounds like she is DONE with them. Adios mamacita! I agree that they are a little young to brave cold nights.
