Hi there,

This is my first post! Thanks for reading!

So, my chickens are just starting to lay. I have 8 hens, 5 red star, 3 black star. 1 red star is laying, the rest are being freeloaders still (unless this eggs belongs to one of the other hens). Only one other hen looks ready to start laying.

I found this egg today, and the shell is pretty soft, and as you can see the shell is crushed and the innards are missing.

Is this normal for new layers? Do I need to do something? They have an excellent diet and lots of space.

Soft shelled eggs are normal in New layers, they need to sometimes work the kinks out of the system. More than likely the contents were eaten by one of you birds.
