is this normal?

i have young hens that have been laying for two months now. if i leave their eggs in the nests for a while the hens start pecking the eggs and ive lost two eggs to cracks/damage. is this normal or are they just young and curious???

I'd keep an eye on them and collect eggs as often as possible. It sounds like you could have a possible egg eater, which you really don't want.

Are they getting enough protein?

We feed our flock all of our left-over, well-cooked meat scraps and scrambled or steamed and mashed eggs (once a week, atleast) and have never had an egg eating issue here.
