Is this normal?

'Americana' is a name some hatcheries use for EE basically to dupe folks into thinking they are getting Ameraucanas - purebred birds.

Thank you for being so helpful! That’s what I was told she was, I just didn’t spell it right… actually the ole lady got it from tractor supply I do believe!

Sorry I'm definitely no expert and I've seen you both on here and know you are very knowledgeable but this doesn't look like an injury to you?

Just double checking for the OP because I have chickens with rose combs and they don't have holes in the top.

Also, double checking as a learning experience for myself. Thank you!
@WingItRanch What breeds do you have that have a Rose comb?

No, As mentioned previously, it's not an injury.

It's a Rose Comb. That hole or divet you see is housing the spike for the comb. As the bird matures, the spike will emerge. How long and prominent will it be? Who knows, you'll have to wait and find out.
Genetics will play a role in how the comb eventually develops, that's not my "field" at all.

The Wyandotte has a rose comb, and the EE has more of a pea comb - totally normal.

Do an on site search on 'comb types'. Both combs are completely normal for the breeds involved. There is no injury involved. EE are Easter Eggers.

@Wyorp Rock Fascinating! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain.

I've only seen adult chickens with rose combs, never a growing chick so that explains it. I even tried looking it up in my research but nothing would explain it the way you did. Thankfully, this site provides invaluable information!

Sorry for butting into the thread, @New2thisJJ
