Don't know what it is but it's all over the yard and they seem to like it. Is it poisonous to my chicks?

Maybe it's just that I don't get out very much, but I've never heard of a chicken poisoning itself because it ate a plant that was growing outside. I'm almost certain that is juniper and we have alot of it around our house too. The chickens probably like hanging out in it because of the protection it offers from aerial predators, but I'd be surprised if they were eating it.

I saw them eating the tips, we have like 5 or 6 short bushes of it. It's the chicks third time outside and I've heard they eat anything they can, they were eating the green tips on the Douglas fir too.

I'm always learning something! They will figure it out. Chickens, even chicks, know what they need. Maybe they just needed some vitamin C :) There also could have been very small bugs on it that you might not have been able to see. Evergreen plants are known to be a host to spider mites.

I sure hope you're right! I'll update if something seems off with them, I just don't know if I can leave them out by the plants without watching them.
If anyone knows for sure if it's safe or not, let me know so I can decide about letting them out without any second thoughts.
Thank you!
