Is this too good to be true?

The morning my rooster first started to crow I chased him as soon as he started. The third time he tried the hens started chasing him too and he stopped trying and hasn't crowed a single time since. Can I expect this to last forever or will he start up again soon. It was last Saturday, so it's been a week. It can't be that easy to train a rooster to not crow.

Why are you chasing your rooster?
We aren't allowed to have roosters where I live. I actually have twice as many chickens as I'm supposed to have. But my next door neighbor will legally claim half of them if need be.

Update he crowed a little Monday morning and I repeated the process of chasing him every time he did. So he stopped. Hasn't since. My chickens all treat me like one of them. I guess that must make me the head rooster as far as he's concerned. Maybe he will just get used to not crowing if I keep doing it. He's very skittish and all my hens chase him away from food and stuff. Like he's the bottom of the pecking order for sure even though he's easily the biggest chicken I have. I guess the day he realizes he can kick everyone's butt is the day he will start crowing again.

Roosters are actually not part of the pecking order. They are the protector of the flock. I wonder if he would even protect his hens at this point if they’re so mean to him.
