Hello!
I’ve got six hens who are about 12 weeks old. Lately I’ve noticed so many feathers in the coop. I’ve checked them over so many times and see no signs of pecking, mites, skin issues, etc. You can’t even tell they’ve lost feathers by looking at them. Is it normal to lose a lot of feathers at this age?

Yes, juvenile molt. They go through several juvenile molts before they finally have a full set of adult feathers, which can take up to 5 months depending on breed. Sometimes they look very patchy with bald spots, other times the only evidence is all the feathers laying around. Once they are fully feathered they won't molt again until their first adult molt, which can again sometimes look like a burst pillow.

They are molting. That isn't even close to the amount of feathers my chickens leave. When they molt they lose A LOT of feathers. This is ok!
