I was looking through hatching eggs on ebay and some cream legbar ones came up and the seller said "the eggs do better in a incubator. It is harder to hatch them under a broody" is tis true?

I don't think so. Maybe he just meant that they would have a better chance in the incubator because she wouldn't decide to move last minute or something. I don't think there is any scientific evidence that shows cream leg bars hatch better in an incubator.

A lot of stuff you will see from sellers online isn't true or is misguided. I saw an ad on craigslist the other day that said "Free Yellow Chickens". The listing said "I am breeding yellow chickens, these are some of my best, I can't remember what they are called.". Uh-huh...

He has probably just always used an incubator, or maybe had bad luck using a broody, and thinks that incubators are better now.

Best of Luck!~Ms.B

Hi Johnn,

That is the unusual quote IMO. My incubator says in the instructions that it tries to mimic the broody hen...so that would lead me to believe that the hen is a superior hatching arrangement.

However, the control of the incubator is greater of the control of a broody. One I had only lasted broody for one week, and she even ate an egg. (it may have been already cracked though, in her defense). I guess for control of the egg incubation- an incubator, would be best. If you could get Ms. Hen to do all the checking, turning, humidifying etc. and not worry about a power outage, plus take care of the chicks once hatched....a hen would be best.

Can't wait to hear what answers the members of BYC forum will provide for you. :O)
