Is this wood worth the money?

Hi,
I am wanting to build a beautiful new coop! I was going to buy these 2x4s for the night area and roosts:https://www.homedepot.com/p/Weather...tact-Pressure-Treated-Lumber-253920/206967803 What's everyone else's opinion?

Pressure treated lumber is soaked with chemicals that are poison and can both be absorbed transdermally and leach out of the wood into your chicken's water, soil, bedding, feed, bugs, worms, etc.

Don't use it. If you're looking for rot resistant wood, use redwood or apitong. Apitong is sometimes called poor man's teak, it's a hard wood used for truck beds, trailer decking and flooring in charge containers.

If they are going to be exposed to the weather they will last longer. But not necessary for indoor roosts IMO. You can get away with the plain ole basic 2x4’s if that’s what you want to use.

You only need to use PT lumber if it will be exposed to the elements. I used to to frame out the run on any members that could get wet. Otherwise, just use kiln dried lumber.
You can just use natural tree branches or saplings with the branches removed for roosts in the run.

Pressure treated wood is safe to use. Any ground contact wood should be PT.

Modern pressure-treated wood is no longer treated with arsenic (and thus doesn't last as long anymore).

It's not necessary for areas that will never be exposed to damp and weather, but will make certain that wood that will be exposed will last longer.

Pressure-treated is not necessary for the roosts, but a good material for the floor/anything close to the ground and run framing. My 2x4 pine roosts are not pressure-treated nor are they painted.

Just ask, tell them you want untreated and they'll lead you to the right section.

Often one side of the lumber aisle in the Lowes or Home Depot is treated and the other is not.
