I have a 2 yr old hen that started holding its head to the side. I started treating for wry neck by squeezing vit e + selenium pills in her mouth. ive done 4 of the 200 iu pills a day for more than a week although I am not sure how much is getting in her mouth. I thought her comb started turning a funny color so I stopped last night because I am afraid to overdose her on them. I thought initially she seemed a little better but it’s definitely worse again. Suggestions??

It does look like possible wry neck. Is the neck always like that? Giving 400 IU every day for a couple of weeks until you see improvement would be good. The softgels can be put in the back of the throat to swallow, or you can open them and put on a small treat of scrambled egg bits or similar treat. Egg has selenium as well as sunflower seed. Wry neck can sometimes be a sign of head injury, a vitamin E or B1 thiamine deficiency, and is sometimes a sign of disease, such as Mareks and others. If you can supplement a little thiamine or B complex that may help as well.

i switched to a b complex this morning vs the vit e w selenium. she is only 4 lbs so afraid the pill would choke her. she can straighten her neck but doesn’t keep it straight for long.

Many people give calcium and other pills whole and orally. The E softgels can be pierced and emptied into a syringe or a small bit of food. B complex tablets may be cut in half, crushed into food or dissolved in a spoonful of water. Let us know how she gets along.

I am devastated to say my girl died last week. After wasting my time giving her supplements I finally realized it was an ear problem. I started treating her for an ear infection. From what I read ear infections that cause balance problems have made it to the inner ear and are viral and hard to treat. One day she was fine (but still w neck to the side) and the next day she was having convulsions. On the way to the vet to put her down I noticed some mites so maybe it was mites vs an ear infection. I am so sad that I let her down. I have never had mites before and never even thought about ear mites and didn’t see them when I was looking at her ear earlier. Nevertheless she is gone :’(. I am posting this because I hope this helps someone in the future so they don’t feel this pain.

I have a 2 day old baby duckling, welah harlequin. She has had a rough time now looks lime age may have wry neck? Not sure. She fails around neck side to side and will only lay on her back. I have to hold her most of the time so she is upright. Started today with Vit E tablet and 1 supplement of BComplex ground up in water. Also made herb tea with thyme, sage amd parsley, maybe oregano, i Can't remember.
She has had 1 dropper of the tea, 1 dropper of ACV ( apple. Ider vinegar) dilute solution, a little olive oil?, and half dropper of regular water. I can keep her wrapped or enough pressure on her to stop moving long enough in her box to sleep..she just hatched last night.... and we'll this is how she came out. What do I do. Keep trying, give her up to water foul res ue. I can't leave her home daily nor bring to work.. HELP!! SHE SPINS LIKE A LITTLE TORNADO all over , can't stand and her head flailing... OmG. Amy advise. I'm stuck.... any help would be appreciated.. concerned and helpless.. I made her a very loose neck brave so she doesn't hurt herself. Is she in pain? She calms when I hold her and put her in a hold with pressure. Uuggh what do I now?
