Is your dog a hero?

I sold a pup to a man who had never had a dog before. It was a Shetland sheepdog. He wanted the dog to herd sheep away from his garden. But he fell in love with her, and kept her in the house at night. One night the house caught fire and she raised the alarm. He made it out the window with her in his arms. He said he would have likely died without her, since he was a very sound sleeper.

Not a dog, but this IS a chicken forum....

On December 23rd, between 3 and 4 in the morning, my cockerel went crazy making loud noises like he'd never made before. The alarm by the coop wasn't set off, so I tried to ignore him. He woke up my two rough ("Lassie") collies, who nosed me out of bed and led me to the door. Big Ben, the cockerel, was still going off. I grabbed a jacket and went outside to see what the fuss was about. It was black out, except for the huge flames at a neighbor's house. I could smell the smoke. I called 911, and they were already on their way. No danger to me unless the fire would have taken off. If you live in a fire prone state like I do, you know how fast that can happen. The firemen got it under control. I posted about what happened in the AZ chickens thread. Big Ben got some extra snacks in the morning.

My dog "Trusty" lived to be 14, was as old as she is in this pic, went for a walk with my son, who was about 15 at the time. They came to a driveway and a pitbull came running down to the road they were on. Trusty wagged her tail and tried to be friendly, the pitbull lowered his head and braced his haunches like he was going to leap at my son. A switch went off in Trusty and even though nomally she was just a nice old blind and deaf dog, she braced herself inbetween the pitbull and my son. My son said she growled like she never growled before and was telling that pitbull if he tried anything, it would be the sorriest day of his life! The pitbull turned and ran back up his driveway.

(Sweet story about this pic) We were at lake CD'A in ID and someone threw a stick for her and a young lab. They both went in and the young lab fetched it. She looked sad for a moment, then smiled like she is in this pic. Watched the lab fetching with her head tilted in memory. I could tell she knew she could not fetch this time but she was thinking of all the fun times in the past she got to fetch.

My dog is kinda dumb, I don't think he'd do anything special.

My grandmas dog, A labrador, fought several dogs off the property. Did she save us? no.... she was just super protective. She also got between any and all play wrestling between the kids,, no playing too rough at Grandmas
