Hi all!
about a month ago we noticed our ISA brown was egg bound (not moving, eating, etc) soaked her in the tub and she laid about 30 minutes later. She also laid another egg that night which was soft shelled.
Today is now the 4th time in the last 1.5 months she’s appeared egg bound, laid, then laid 2nd egg. (Not very active, messy bottom, not eating, straining. She usually lays first thing in the AM so I usually know when it’s an issue.)
I offer 18% protein (about to switch back to 16% now that winter is over and our molting girls are done.) we offer free choice oyster and egg shells and grit. no artificial light in the coop over winter. The free range only when supervised which is about 1-2 hours a day due to predators.
try to keep the treats minimal and get about 3 tbsp a day of meal worms or fruit a day, split between 6 girls.
Any thoughts?
Pic of the 1st egg below. Still waiting on the 2nd egg but I’m sure it will be soft.
