I started my chicks on March 20th and was expecting them to start laying in 18 to 20 weeks. They started laying on the 18th week just like clock work. The eggs started out small as expected but very quickly got large! I have had 4 double yokers already! They are averaging about 4 eggs per day and I have 5 hens.
I throw them corn cobs from the garden and they love tomatoes and anything else from the garden. I currently have eggs coming out of my ears from only 5 hens... I thought 5 would be a safe number to start with. I am just wondering why everyone doesn't have a few hens for fresh eggs. It is so easy and so rewarding to be able to produce your own food.
