Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We bought a farm on 11 acres in 2018 and want it to be a sustainable farm, so our natural first action was to get chickens!! We were both new to chickens and are still learning new things all the time....
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 16 free range hens, 3 roosters, and 16 growing up in the coop/run at 13-14 wks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
NewHampshireRed, RIR, coaching, frizzles, Golden Comets, Amerucaunas
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The eggs are wonderful but just watching them free range in a pasture of flowers is amazing. I also love how they come running for treats.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I garden, make birdfeeders, and I love the water. Fishing, hiking, camping on a lake is my other happy place. I am a simple country woman and don't like crowds, cities, or shopping.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married to a clinical lab scientist and I am a labor and delivery nurse for the past 20 years. We have two grown daughters and 9 wonderful grandchildren. On our farm, the Island of Parker, we have five dogs, four cats, and all those chickens!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have skimmed posts for information since I got chickens, and right now I have unexpected amounts of free time so I am here to learn and share with other "Chicken Tenders".
