We've decided to get back into buckeyes this spring. Looking for hatching eggs or chicks in Illinois or surrounding states. Also open to traveling to Ohio. Prefer not to ship.

Yes! Meyer Hatchery permits chick pick-up. Arrangements can be made on the MH website. If you're open to traveling to Ohio I'd just go pick them up from Meyer Hatchery. That's where I've gotten all my Buckeyes and I've been quite pleased with their stock of those.
*although I'm not sure if they do pick up.
All my Buckeyes from MH have been special in their own way, from a hen having spurs to excellent foraging skills, personality, looks. Now today I was looking again at one of my newer girls, and it sure looks like she might have gotten some speckles from somewhere. Not a big deal to me if she were part Sussex.Meyer Hatchery ships Buckeye eggs, but they of course will be hatchery quality. If that's not what you're looking for, you should consider contacting one of the breeders from this site or this site.
Best of luck! I'm sure you'll be able to find some. I have one Buckeye chicken (from Meyer Hatchery), and we will definitely be getting more in the future. Love this breed.
I can put in a good if outdated word for Shumaker Farms: http://www.shumakerfarmbuckeyechickens.com/Thanks for the links. I've emailed everyone in my state and the surrounding state on the first website. I just wish they were more up to date (most recent update i can see looks like 2021). A good half dozen emails bounced back as undeliverable and most of the replies I've received have told me they no longer have buckeyes.
But I do have a couple leads! And if they don't pan out there's always the Ohio National. And if we really can't find them we can always fall back on Meyer.
I looked at their website before. I'd be interested in their stock for sure, but not eggs.I can put in a good if outdated word for Shumaker Farms: http://www.shumakerfarmbuckeyechickens.com/
I got buckeye eggs from them many years ago and was delighted with the quality, personality, and conformation of the resulting birds. I don't know if they ship now.
