ISO Coturnix Quail hens in Northern CA/Bay Area

I got some quails from likely the same person this weekend. I got two button quail and 13 coturnix. One didn’t make the thought the first night but the rest are putting on weight. I’m not sure how old the buttons are as their beaks are a little long. View attachment 1338297
Very nice! Were they healthy? Do you know why one didn't make it? I wonder if he ignored my messages because i am only looking for a small flock of hens.

Those are long beaks! I think there are a few threads with options for fixing the beaks. Dremel tool or file, or you can put a terra cotta bowl/saucer in their enclosure and they can sharpen/file their beaks by themselves.

Terra cotta is a great idea, I’ll use that and hopefully not have to do anything more drastic.

They seem to be healthy so far but this is my first experience with quail so I’m not totally sure what to look for. They’re eating and pooping a lot and they’re crops look really full. Hopefully that’s good.
I think it might have been too cold in the brooder in the first night and the one got crushed, it was a bit smaller than the others. I adjusted the heat lamp after and have less crowding now and haven’t had any more losses.
I had to text the guy a couple times before I got a meeting set up. He posted again yesterday so he must still have more.
