Due to a recent raccoon incident, we've been left with one very lonely hen. We left our girls out to forage without supervision for no more than ONE hour in broad daylight and all but one remained. Thus, whilst we keep dear Rita on lockdown (as in she's in the coop or we're actively watching her while she forages) we're planning the setup for a new coop/ run for her and her future flockmates that is as close to predator-proof as can be.
That said, she needs flockmates ASAP. We're looking for adult hens- laying or done with laying, doesn't matter at all. Ideally not smaller breeds but otherwise we will take what we can get! We're looking for 2-5, maybe more, but really at least two.
The details as in price, transportation, etc. will really be on my mom's terms (it's her homestead, I'm just the kid home from college for the summer) but I thought it'd be worth scouting about. If your bridies seem like a match for our situation please let me know, we don't want Rita to be alone any longer than she has to. We have our eyes peeled for hens on other sites and local humane societies as well.
Thanks for reading!
