Hello,
I am looking for a young rooster to keep our hens in line and protect them. I have 5 white silkie bantam hens and may get more if I can find a suitable rooster. The right rooster would barely crow (or not at all) and preferably be small. I live in a more urban area, and do not want to disturb my neighbors. I do not plan on hatching any chicks. I am located in New England.

I am aware that finding a mostly quiet roo is almost impossible, but our hens really miss their last roo, who passed away last month. Please let me know if you have a roo, or know of a specific breed that is quieter (I am thinking about a serama roo).

Please post if you have a roo or know any "quiet" breeds. Thanks!

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you're not going to find a rooster suitable for a quiet urban environment. If he doesn't crow, he's not going to be a very effective rooster either.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but I figured it was worth a try. Do you know if a serama rooster could be put in with silkie hens?

I don't see why not, I've never owned one of the little beauties, but if my little silkie rooster can hang out with my big girls, I don't see why a little serama couldn't hang out with some fluffy hens. I do know they can have a pretty big voice for such a tiny body though!
