Hi, it's Me again this time head in hands but with a totally new plan. I started off finding a white with total feathers on a chicken by the name of Erminette. funny thing on my wondering looking for this white egg laying bird. It is said to be brought to America at about 1870. by 1874 they were thought to be extinct. But wait. someone now deceased. was driving through Wisconsin saw what he thought was the elusive chicken. there are a couple of breeders near me but are pretty proud of them. too much so. I ran down the breed Mr. Nelson, the one that is deceased he brought two or three other men in to keep and breed the bird. I traced the last one who funny enough, changed the species. The black and white breed is a fluffy rumped grey-blue color. So, I am pretty sure Mr. Nelson's Chicken he saved no longer except around me exists as he knew it. Now I as disillusioned as ever Am in search of a blue egg laying Chicken I found a Blue Americauna but my question is are there other Blue egg laying Chickens? and if there are can they interbreed with the other one. like a blue sapphire gem and a Blue Americauna?

Ameraucanas are a blue egg-laying breed.
Araucanas are a blue egg-laying breed
Cream Crested Legbars are a blue egg-laying breed.

Almost all others you'll find are mutts. Sapphire gems, for instance, are a sex-linked hybrid [and, as has been pointed out below, they lay brown eggs. Oops.] Easter Eggers (Advertised as "americanas") are descended from Ameraucanas in most cases, but have often been crossbred with brown egg layers and lay green eggs.

All types of domestic chicken are genetically compatible.

do you have to have an mericauna rooster in order to keep true blue eggs and if by chance you have several white layers in with the Americana rooster does it change the color?

Crossing an Ameraucana rooster over white egg layers should produce chicks that will lay blue eggs. It will not change the colour of the eggs that the white layers lay. Roosters fertilise eggs. They don't affect the eggshell or the formation of the shell. (I hope that's what you're asking?)

On BYC do a search for Erminette on forums and you will come up with some discussions if you are still interested in that breed.
