I have a hen I took to the vet. Symptoms were runny yellow and white poop and also passing a few bead sized tissue objects. Standing apart from the flock, lethargic, not eating. He diagnosed Salpingitis, bacterial infection, and put her on Baytril antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory. I've had her in the bathroom for nearly a week. Feeding her baby food, meal worms and gatorade, feed and oyster shell (vet's suggestion). She is doing better but I'm keeping her inside to see how she is when the antibiotics are done. Today I noticed another girl with similar symptoms, and tucking her head under her wing. Not passing any unusual substances inside yet. Just runny poop. Now she is in the other bathroom. They have not been wormed so I'll go to the feed store to get Safeguard. I'm wondering if I should get Corid to treat for Cocci and if it's ok to give her both of these? I don't have antibiotics for this second one and I'm not entirely sure the first vet's diagnosis for the first sick girl was correct.

UPDATE: SHE IS EATING SCRAMBLED EGGS AND MEALWORMS AND DRINKING GATORADE. LOOKING PERKIER. I STILL FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG THOUGH.

Can you offer the second sick one some scrambled egg, watery chicken feed, and get her drinking fluids? Sugar 1 tsp per cup of water or electrolytes might give a boost. How does her crop feel—empty and flat, partly full, or full and hard, doughy, or puffy? Poop pictures are welcome.

It sounds like the vet may be right about salpingitis is she is passing small lash material. We love pictures. Yellow urate or white urates with yellow poop can be from reproductive disorders. How much baytril are you giving? I would let the hens spend some time with the flock every day, so reintroduction is easier.

Thank you. I did give her scrambled eggs, gatorade and some feed mash. Also, mealworms. And she is doing much better. I've got the two sick hens in one room now. The crop was flat when I brought her in but now is partly full and feeling normal. To be on the safe side I'm going to call the vet and see if I can get this one a round of antibiotics as well. No strange passings from the newly sick one. Poop photos to come. Baytril 27.5 mg. 1/2 tablet every 12 hrs.

I went to another vet a couple of days ago. My usual avian vet was out for a week. She told me that she couldn't prescribe Baytril since it was banned for use in farm animals. (She's right.) I think my original vet had no issue doing it. In any case, she prescribed Amoxicillin. I'd rather stick with the Baytril. Thank you so much for the reference to Jedds.
