Well - I'm hooked! Last August I bought 6 Barred Rock pullets (one was lost to a raccoon) - and I just LOVE them! I wanted MORE! I have placed my order with Ideal, and my order will be shipped on Feb 18th. I can't wait.
Anyway, my current coop (which will from now on be a chick nursery) is being replaced by this beauty:
It isn't going to win any "pretty" awards - and we still have a lot of work to do - but I'm so excited! It started as just a shed that use to be shelter for 3 fallow deer that the previous property owner kept. My husband built the nest boxes (there are six all together that measure 14"x14").
We are putting two hardware cloth doors to ensure safety and good air movement (in FL we don't have to worry too much about cold). I also have to fill in the gaps of the wood slats so rain stays out. Then we're going to put three 10' roosts about 20" apart.
When it's done, I'll paint it in some campy way to embrace its character.
I can't wait!
