What was I thinking? It won't happen to me.

It did happen. Five minutes before we were to leave for church on Sunday. A flash, a flicker and then everything is down. My chicks!! We are out in the country.
My husband who says and acts like he doesn't care, helped me get them into the house from the garage. Of course there was no missing church.
I put them into a small box so that they could keep each other warm. We left for church. I was a mess the whole time. They did fine. Were still warm when we got back.
Came back and my wonderful 14 year old boy, said that he would hook up the inverter (that I bought him last year) and hooked it up to his tractor. Had the cord run into the house and connected the lamp. Walla. Except that it wouldn't run too long. He then switch it to dads car battery. Which lasted a lot longer. He was so proud of himself and so was I. The light worked most of the 6 1/2 hours.
My husband also preceded to start the fireplace and kept it going and put their box near it to keep them warm. Just in case the lamp went out again.
I was so amazed how this man acts like he doesn't care about them, yet stepped in to take care of them. He sat by them most of the 6 1/2 hours of having no electricity. I think his heart has turned.
I didn't know it, but he had gotten up real early that morning to check on them and the temp had dipped. It was usually at 90, but went down to 80- 85. He told me, which was a surprise.
That night we put them back out into the garage. It was going to dip a little bit in temp during the night. Just for extra cover also, I told him I would put a blanket over part of the brooder. I went to brush my teeth first before bed. Got a blanket and preceded to go take care of them.
What a site, when I went into the garage and my husband was not only covering them up himself, checking the temp, but going on and on talking to them. It was quite the site.
Who would have ever known that this man would do a complete turn around of not wanting them at all, to being totally devoted.
I know he will be there for me and for his new girls and it is a wonderful feeling.
