Ok so this is not chicken related but I could use some help. My new dog is too smart for her own good. I didn't want to buy an e collar (cone of shame) because it cost too much. I made my own with cardboard and duct taped it to her collar. She pulled her collar off and the cone with it. Then i put the collar back on with the cone and duct taped it to her harness. She took off her harness, collar and cone. Now I just have a towel wrapped around her neck to prevent her from pulling out her spay stitches but if I'm not watching her she pulls that off too! I dont know what to do. Im glad I didnt buy the collar now because it would not have worked! I tried to make a foam neck restrictor but she could still reach her belly. Any advice?

Try scolding her every time you see her messing with her neck collar. Put one of those shocker collars on her(if you have one or know someone who'd let you borrow) and give her a light buzz when you catch her in the act.

Maybe your vet may have an idea. But on the other hand, he'd just tell you to buy one of those collars and if don't want to spend the money, that's understandable.
That is exactly what the vet said. They said to bring her in and they would fit it on her. I personally feel that when you pay to get an animal spayed they shouldnt make you pay for the recovery. Do I have to pay for a cast if I break my arm? Nope thats included in the procedure. If they thought you needed it they wouldnt sell it to you. And here's the kicker: they said they "can not guarantee it will stay on after they fit it". I'm unconvinced. Shes too much of a Houdini to keep that cone on. The only satisfaction would be in seeing the vet struggle to keep it on her. I'm very fortunate in that I'm able to sit and watch her but it is preventing me from getting stuff done around the house

Some people have luck putting a tshirt on the dog to cover the stitches or a baby's one-sie with the footies cut off. Personally, I had a dog with a hot spot that he would not leave alone. It was worth it to invest in a lycra bodysuit for dogs. Sounds crazy to spend $100 for a dog bodysuit but it worked. I can also highly recommend the Novaguard face mask. It's like the cone of shame but it's more comfortable because it doesn't cover up the ears and it's harder to get off. I even have one (just in case) for the cat!

My nephew used a t-shirt on his female Great Dane when she was spayed. He said an e-collar would have been too big to be practical in the house, but the shirt worked great. I’ve tried it for my male dog, too after a surgery. I went to the local thrift store and picked a few up. I guess mileage may vary, but it might be worth a shot.

Do you have a photo example you could show me so I know how to utilize it? I might do this and the towel wrap for good measure. I found out today she has giardia on top of everything else. So now she has to take TWO antibiotics. Its a good thing she loves peanut butter...

My daughter bought a blow up ring on Amazon for that, dog can deal with that easier
