So I thought I had read somewhere, from an old-time chicken farmer, that the best way to deter mites is to sprinkle Italian seasoning in the coop and/or run. Now, this kinda makes sense because the herbs in an Italian seasoning blend are mostly among those commonly recommended to deter bugs. It would certainly be an inexpensive method! I can't find where I read this (was it on here? I don't know,) but... does anyone do it? I have one of those jumbo cannisters of Italian seasoning from Sam's Club. Will my run smell like pizza? ;)

It is worth a try,, :yesss: If anything,, your chickens can have it as Gourmet Treat. :wee
Maybe your eggs will be pre-seasoned for this recipe.
I never did encounter that remedy yet, (or posting)
I am using Garden Sulfur to combat the mites. I drop quantities of it into dust bath spots.
Mites are a terrible lil pest to totally eradicate. There are always more that arrive via, rodents, or other nuisance visitors.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome

I have no idea if that will deter mites or lice or not. I don't use anything to deter them and have never had them. That doesn't mean I won't find some later today. That's part of the problem with doing things like this, you don't know if they work or you are just lucky.

I don't know if that will attract or deter mice, snakes, or other critters. If it makes you feel better that you are doing something you can certainly try it. There is value in you feeling better. I don't know what the consequences will be.

Thank you! I don't think that I have mites yet, but I am hoping to avoid them. I use sweet pdz and barn lime (the first saturday brand,) in my coop and run, and I'm just wondering what else I can do. I have never heard of garden sulphur,, I will look into it.
