Our dogs have been really itchy for a little while now. My one dog is the worst. he has longer hair, not sure if that has anything to do with it? He's always been the type of dog to scratch, but now, the poor guy has scabs all over his body.

We've tried: changing foods (we buy good quality food), he has flea and tick medicine on (the same kind we always use and have never had problems with before), and we bought hot spot treatment, but nothing is helping. He doesn't have any allergies that we are aware of. I'm thinking I should just give him a bath and hope that helps. Any other suggestions?

If all your dogs are itching, you probably are looking at some type of mites (or mange). Get him to the vet and get a scraping done and you will have to treat all of them and their bedding. If they are itching to the point of open sores, they will end up with secondary infections.

Three of my dogs are itchy, but one is not. Two are only mildly itchy (they scratch less and less everyday), the 1 with the sores is the only one who is really itchy. When we adopted our lab, she had mange and we had to have her treated for that (about 6 years ago), it doesn't appear to be anything like that. We recently cleaned our upstairs carpets with a new cleaner, we're thinking maybe they had a reaction to that?

do you have any wandering dew about the place? that tends to affect dogs with an itch...and have you been to the vet? generally they will recommend an injection of cortisone or something to help?
