Well it's official....My little white silkie is a ROO. He crowed for the first time this morning...three times. At first I didn't know what it was, it got me so off guard. It's kind of weak and funny sound but a clearing a cock-a-doodle doo none the less. I've know for a while I had a little boy on my hands with the way he behaves with my pullets but today was confirmation and I am feel like a proud mama after her baby's first steps. LOL

He's exactly 13 weeks old today and I sure do love him.

So he hasn't crowed since that very first time. I am starting to think I imagined the whole thing!

Is this normal for a Silkie. I know it was early to hear a crow out of him at all but honestly, he doesn't seem to follow suit with what most Silkie's do at certain ages. He's been displaying Roo like qualities for weeks now.

Also, is it normal for a Roo to be afraid of only one of the hens in the flock. If I pick him up and hold him a while, as soon as I put him down one of my Comets flies over to peck him and then chases him all over the run. It's pretty funny.

Mrs.Gibber, I know how proud you feel!

Even though I didn't want a rooster, the first time George crowed, my chest just filled up with motherly pride! My baby was growing up!
Since you clearly are thrilled to have a boy, you must be bursting with pride!

Shesapip - I sure am proud of the little guy. He's lucky he's such a cutie cause we were NOT looking to have a rooster. So long as he continues to behave he can stay.
