So, I've been hoping and praying the my call duckling and my little magpie mix are females. So, I was outside today and the big ducks came running up to me, leaving the little ones in the pen. The babies are locked up away from the adults, but they hate when the big ducks leave them. So anyways, I heard the little call duckling start yelling. It's trying to get its quack!!! Petey is a girl!! Yay!

I came running in and announced the news to everyone and got the "okay... I don't care look." Does anyone else get excited like that? How about get looked at like you're crazy?

Oh well... I'm happy and excited!

CONGRATULATIONS

My little girl is the one who almost got thrown away. I'd hatched 2 and after 2 1/2 days I figured the others were no-shows. Turned off the bator and was about to throw them away when I noticed a pip on the bottom of one egg.
Quick! Bator back on! More water in the bottom! Spray the egg! Duckling had a hard time since the membrane was so dry so I did have to help it a bit.
Then it got a torn bill.

But it kept on growing and eating and pooping and pooping with its siblings. Then when it was about 3 weeks old - she quacked!
I'm so pleased because she's the most special, even though they're all special since it was my first hatch.

when my call/mallard hatched, I was praying she was a girl.

I sexed her by behavior, and the fact that she had a "quack" since about a week, she always had this nasal-y peep, and now she's a talky lil hen

Thanks guys. Now I'm just waiting to figure out what my little mutt baby from miss_jayne is. I named it Pearl in hopes of a girl! lol I am hoping that I am right about Petey but I'm pretty sure that he is a she.
