Ok, so ive talked about my 12 y/o rescue drake Monty on here a few times. Well lately he has been acting.... cute.

He will go out, and find nest spots for the girls. Under my barn is a little section for the ducks fro when they free range and there is hay down there where my ducks have made nests before. Well he will go in there, look around, and sit down where he thinks a good nesting spot is and then call his girls *rasp - rasp - rasp - rasp - rasp - rasp *

It is the CUTEST thing because I think he misses having ducklings. He would always wait in the entrance of the dog house or coop that his hens would lay in and sit there, guarding the entrance the whole incubation period, so worried for his girls. Then he is always a good drake when it comes to ducklings and keeps the otehr ducks away.

It is just such a cute act but at the same time i feel so bad for him because only a few girls are laying and that is only every other day or week or so so it will be a while before we have ducklings.

Awwww, 'tis Spring! Well, the duckies think so, anyway.

You have a drake named Monty.. I have one too.... He is a gorgeous big fat sook, Aylesbury that we hand raised as a lone ducking. My Monty is a real character..just like yours by the sounds of it. My Monty still loves to come inside for a cuddle if we leave the back door open.

I would love to se a pic of your Monty on Daddy duties when you have some ducklings.

Ill take some for you
