I've been getting celedon eggs. How should I breed them?

I have a couple of larger flocks of coturnix quail. One of them has been producing one handsome little celedon egg every day. I've been trying to do some research on how to continue this line. Is it just a matter of hatching the celedons and breeding them together to refine it?

In any case, it's really exciting. Glad to have them!

Honestly, I would recommend trying to get another :)

The gene is recessive, so to get more that actually lay blue eggs you will have to breed the offspring together or offspring back to the mother. Considering all celadon layers in the US are descended from a single hen, and coturnix are 3-4x as sensitive to inbreeding depression as chickens, and my guess is your line will start to lack vigour very soon.

That said, there are several gamebird hatcheries that sell the eggs! James Marie farms (you have to call/email) and KC quail farm to name a couple. Stellar farms and myshire might but I forgot! I'd hatch a male out of one of those batches of eggs, breed him to your female, and you will for sure get at least 50% blue egg laying pullets from that cross.
