I've got a Christmas egg!

Golda, my 20-week buff orpington, gave me the best Christmas gift ever! Today, at around noon, she laid her first egg. It is a beautiful, perfect, brown egg! I'm so proud of her and so surprised that she is laying in perfect time...and while we are having our shortest days here in cloudy, cold Indiana.

I whooped and hollered and my next-door neighbor heard me! She stuck her head out the window to congratulate us and wish us a merry Christmas!

I called my mother, and she said I should call my hen Golda-Maria since she laid her first egg on Christmas Eve! Of course, we chuckled that my Jewish chicken (Golda) would be the one too! I have 2 other orpingtons (Marge and Gloria) and they will hopefully be close behind Golda. They were making quite a racket as they were announcing the egg! I got a couple of calls from neighbors wondering what was going on!

Yippeeeee!!!

Wow what a nice Christmas present. I keep going out to the coop and looking, but mine ARE going to hold out for spring.

Give that girl a goodie. Way to go Golda.

I'm real proud of the girls...and I think the Purina Flockraiser has been an excellent feed choice for them! They have all matured beautifully!!
