I've never seen this in an egg yolk before, so I HAD to ask...

We're raising our chickens just for eggs right now, so when they lay them, I immediately put them in the fridge. I cracked open an egg this morning and put it in the skillet. I saw something red and white in the yolk, was kind of grossed out, so took it out and showed my boyfriend. We didn't know what it could be, so we thought maybe someone on here could tell us what it is? The white part in the yolk was already white before it started to cook.

Red is a blood spot. The white probably a piece of tissue. If you have a roo with them I might have thought missed egg that was set for a couple days, You see this ever now and then. We pick it out.

I've had plenty of the blood spots, cant say I,ve seen the white ones, but it looks like you've recieved some great responses.

Thanks a bunch!
Our roosters are only 4 months old, and we haven't seen them trying to mate until the last few days, but haven't been successful, so we kind of figured they were just playing with the hens.

You don't need to have roosters to have a blood spot. No harm to eat, but if it grosses you out a bit, give it to your dogs.
