ivermectin during heat wave??

it’s low 90’s with humidity 70% and excessive heat advisories for the next few days. does that make it a bad time to treat chickens with ivermectin sheep drench orally for lice? they are 1 and 2 year old choc orpingtons, they hate the heat. they have plenty of shade and the duck pools with nice wet ground around it where they lay to keep cool. Check on them every couple of hours they do look a little uncomfortable, but OK. It was at least 10 or 15° hotter than this a couple of times last summer and they were OK. I put them in the duck pool for a while and they just stood there in the cool water.

I personally would use Permethrin powder and dust your coop, nest boxes, and the chickens. Also any areas outside where you suspect they got them from.

The ivermectin may get them off your chickens, but won't do anything about getting rid of them in your coop.

If you really want to use it though, I've never heard of it causing issues in hot temperatures. It's just that if you wanted to put anything in their water to help with heat stress, electrolytes might help.

That's interesting how they're so hot they enjoyed just standing in water. I may try that sometime if it ever gets that hot here.

i did, i dusted them all with the permethrin powder , i have to do it again on Sunday, and clean out plus spray their coop/s too. I don’t like using the Promethean powder because I always get it all over my clothes, but I did it anyway then took a shower.

I've never used it but I know the feeling when I DE the coops. By the time I'm done, I have it all over myself, and NO, I do not throw it in the air, lol. I got so bad one time my hubby called me Casper.
