Ivermectin kick in time?

Hi,

1 wk and 1d ago I treated my hens with permithrin dust and cleaned out the coop and sprayed it with permithrin concentrate. As of this past Friday, they were still losing feathers, etc so on Sunday (yesterday) I gave them a dose of ivermectin pour on, redusted them, and did the coop all over again.

Today (monday) I am seeing the chooks still biting at themselves in the areas where they've lost the most feathers. How long does it take for this stuff to kick in?? If this doesn't work I'm at a loss. I was planning on treating again in like 10 days.

Are you sure they are biting at themselves or preening?

You saw actual physical bugs on the hens right?
Could it be just feather plucking instead of bugs?

Photos of feather loss?

I haven't actually seen them. I've tried looking but it's hard to see especially because 4 of them are black.

One of them has gone bald on her throat and back of her head. One of the ameraucanas has pulled her beard out.

They others have broken ends of tail feathers. Broken feathers on chest and back of neck.

They are definitely not pulling each other's feathers. I have seen them preening excessively and biting their own feathers.

Here's a few examples..

Looks like feather plucking. What do you feed and how much space do you have?

A chicken can't normally reach her own beard (can't reach it), someone is plucking it out for her.
A chicken can't pluck feathers from underneath her beak (can't reach them), someone is plucking those out for her.
Do you have one hen that is feathered much better than the rest? If so, that's likely your culprit. Observe behaviors. You'll eventually figure out who's doing the plucking.

They've all lost feathers to some degree .. some definitely worse than others. They definitely have enough space, things to climb on, etc .. including enough space on their roosts .. I've observed them a lot and that's how I know they've been doing it to themselves. At least some of the time

Give them their normal feed nutritionally balance poultry feed and cut out treats that will dilute the protein content. See that they are drinking.
Observe some more. Loss under the beak and on the neck like that is from plucking.
Make sure they have plenty of space. While sometimes we think they have a lot of space, some hens require more.

Go out at night while they are roosting and look them over for lice and mites, bugs are easier to see then. Wipe your roosting bars with a white paper towel to see if there's any mites.
