Hey there! We just stumbled on this site and thought it would be fun to try it out. We don't have chickens yet but we're looking forward to building a coop and having some chickens for eggs. We have a good size property so interested in learning the best way to care for chickens and what to expect. Happy to be here and look forward to conversing with you all!

Welcome! The people here are great resource. use them wisely! Chickens can be cared for in a thousand ways and there are a millions opinions on the right way to do each one. As long as they have a clean and dry coop enough space to scratch and call their own clean water and good food they will be happy campers. everything additional to that is what makes you happy. Do your research and prepare for 2x the number of chickens you think you want. The chicken fever comes fast and strong and the only cure is more birds. good luck and ask questions

! Great to have you aboard!! I think you are doing it the right way - research first and then take the plunge. And BYC is THE place for research plus friendly and knowledgeable help. A great place to start is the Learning Center here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center It is packed with useful article running the range of chicken keeping.
Best wishes and enjoy your chicken journey!!

Welcome!

Best wishes to you and your feathered family when they become a reality.

As redsoxs has mentioned, I also recommend a visit to the Learning Centre; lots of good tips there and some great coop ideas here if you do not already have any: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

Finally, you might want to say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

In addition to the Learning Center and your state thread, use the Search box in the upper left corner to find topics you're interested in. Don't worry about asking questions either as everyone was new at some point and we're all here to help each other.

Have fun!
