well how old are you is the first thing that comes to my mind, are you old enuff to be responsible for another living thing. cause most parents wouldnt need to be convinced if you are.

You should know better than to ask someone how old they are on here!!

OP~~I would suggest that you edit your post and remove your age, before a mod does it for you.

If you check out monarc23 signature line, she has a whole list of information on coturnix (aka japanese) quail, with tons of pictures. I'll see if I can find some other threads with pics for you.

But some benefits of quial over other birds are:

-They lay as many eggs as the food they eat, meaning that for every pound of food eaten, they should lay 1 pound's worth of eggs.
-They are sexually mature and able to breed at as little as 5 weeks old (and laying eggs)
-They are full grown at 12 weeks, and some variations can get up to 1 pound live-weight.
-They are easy to tell the sexes of, and you can tell as early as 3 weeks old.

If I think of anything else I'll repost

Just make sure you take your age off here!!

well just to be totally clear, I didnt really want to know this persons age it was more of a that would be my first question thing. My thinking is that if you have to convince some one to let you have something your not old enuff!

That and they didn't want to pay for them. To the original poster, you can make sure to let your mom know that in egg sells, the birds can easily pay for their own feed...after the inital costs of caging and raising them up are done.

I would show your mom the information here on thm as well as their minimal requirements she may be interested in them once she knows that.

In My oppinon quails (coturnix) make way better pets than a parakeet, or a hamster...but that's just me.

Just tell Mom that if you dont hold up your end of the bargain of taking care of them every day, she could process and eat them, they taste great!!

And yes, they are better than hamsters and parakeets, the quail dont bite!!!!
