jeaucamom and other newbie hatchers, some advice

Ok, now that I've had one little chicky hatch, I'm an expert here to give you some advice

1st, when you put the eggs out of the turner at day 18, place them large end mostly toward your viewing area. So you can have a very good view of pips.

2nd, try to keep them out of the way of the works of the bator, can't see through them very well.

3rd, Keep them away from the wall of the bator closest to the side you view from, cause when you put the top back on those are hard to see.

4th, have a nice light right above the bator for good viewing.

5th, if you don't have a nice light, get a little pen light or mini mag light so you can spotlight each egg for a better view.

6th get a nice comfy chair right in front of the bator.

7th Buy yourself some finger foods so you don't have to get up.

8th, take lots of pictures.

That should help you through this ordeal.

check, check and double check. Oh yeah!! Ours are on the kitchen table with the light right above it so we can walk around on all sides and get a good view. So here is my question though:

Do you take them out at the beginning, middle or end of day 18????

We had one drop when candling today

and it seemed like it was a perfect development for day 5, but we were supposed to be entering day 7 as of 11am. ( per http://ag.ansc.purdue.edu/poultry/clipart.htm#Embryos under chicken embryos) So when it is time to take them out at day 18 will they be behind a day in development????

Geesh, so many things to worry about.

So what kind of finger foods to you recommend??

That's just what I did last week w/ my first hatch (cochin bantams) On day 19 of Silkies.. It really is nerve racking..
