On letting the girls out this morning,i noticed there were lots of our jg hens feathers in the coop. Should i be concerned about this?
There mainly big feathers.
She seems fine, with no obvious problem. She is eating and drinking ok,and socialising ok.
Theres only hens in our group so not a breeding thing.
Kind regards
Hc.

How old are they? They could be moulting. Not an expert so I may be wrong, but thatd be my first guess!

She is a year old.
To look at she has no bold patches, and doesnt look like she has lost plumage but there all over the garden today.

Chickens do typically moult at that age, but none the less, It wouldnt hurt to check for lice and mites! There are some pretty hpful threads on byc to give you tips on how to check for and treat infestations!

What your are seeing more of a seasonal thing than age. Most adults with exception of those brooding eggs or chicks should be in some stage of molt. Smaller feathers are coming out as well but those are often consumed. Handle your birds and look for blood / green feathers.
