So we have 2 coops.. the roughly 4 month old chick's have one and the 6 month Olds have the other. The chick's are a jersey giant and 2 Easter eggers.. the Easter eggers are still quite small compared to my other girls.. the jersey is approx the same size as my 6 month olds.. I found a very small, soft egg in their coop today. In the evening we let them out of the coop/run for some free range time.. my rooster immediately danced for the jersey and just before we put them back in the run she squatted and let him mate with her. I thought they were suppose to be at least 6 months before they laid? I originally thought the little soft egg was from one of my older girls even tho it was in the different coop but now I am wondering if it was hers.. thoughts?

If you're birds are from a hatchery rather than a show breeder they may well mature earlier than what might be expected from show-line birds because hatcheries select for growing well and reproducing well. :)
