Ok, I was given 14 hens which turned out to be 13 hens and 1 rooster. He just does not know it yet. All is tail feathers are gone, girls beating him up. Anyways, I was told they were Jersey giants from McMurry. After looking at them for the past week or two, I noticed they had a greening shine on there back. Wondering if maybe they are Astralorps?? I can tell you some of them have yellow on the bottom of the feet and some kind of grayish (no Yellow). Almost all have the greenish shine to them? Do I have a mixture of both??? How do I truly tell the difference. When I get a chance, I will post some picutres of the feet. They are about 3-3.5 months old from what I understood when I got them.

The pads of the Jersey giants feet should be yellow. The Australorps should be pink/white. Hope this helps. A pure black shicken will sheen green in the sun light, no matter what breed.

The size should tell you. I just sold my flock of Jersey's, and they all heave a green sheen to there feathers, just not as much as the Astralorps. A jersey Giant roo is very large so you should be able to tell by there size.

My Jersey roo was about 7 in taller than my hens, on the top of there heads. Take a standard roo and add almost another half and you have a Jersey. You should see a difference very soon, if you do not already.
