Welcome to BYC!
No. Spangled is not gotten by breeding black + white. Although you can get splash chicks (really pretty color variation that looks like a white washed chicken with grey and or black paint splattered on it), You get this by breeding a black colored chicken X a blue colored chicken. However, you can not get splash from black + white.
A blue chicken X a blue chicken will not breed true (only some of the offspring will be like the parents).
Here is the combination for breeding splash and blue chicks:
- Blue X Blue = 50% of chicks are Blue, 25% Black and 25% Splash
- Blue X Black = 50% of chicks are Blue and 50% Black
- Blue X Splash = 50% of chicks Blue and 50% Splash
- Splash X Splash = 100% Splash chicks
- Splash X Black = 100% Blue chicks
Now, if your white jersey was not a pure white (it had either blue or black parents somewhere along the line), you could get splash genes to show up in the offspring. However, such an occurrence would be rare.
Hope this was helpful!
