We are just starting out with our own backyard chickens. Here is what we have:
* Two Easter Eggers, one Barred Rock, one Wellsummer, and one Road Island Red. All about five weeks old.
* Building coop in the backyard. Based my coop on Carolina Coops, American Coop design. Should be done in the next day or two and will be introducing our chickens to their new home.
* My wife has had chickens previously but I have not. I have had experience with many other animals including some birds of pray but very new to chickens.
* We live in a suburb of Los Angeles on approximately 1/2 acre and the weather is now gettering really hot. Coop has plenty of shade and ventilation.
* Just started reading about e.coli and worried about my birds. Heard about Poultry Dipslides Test kits and wonder if anyone has used these. Will likely post about this somewhere else.
