Hello! I am Jackie - Our farm, which i hope we can make our business one day, is Jr Fad Farm - all the initials of our family Members. Jackie, Ryan, Finley, Abby, Daniel. We've enjoyed gardening for a few years and finally added chickens to our family. 8 hens, 1 rooster. We are mainly wanting to concentrate on egg laying and breeding for now, then once ready, raise chickens for meat. We are the weird people who feel there is an impending event that will cause society to fall - yes...i did preface with weird. We want to be ready for such a crazy thing. SO, we are gardening, canning, and raising animals as we feel we can handle it.

I hope i can get a lot out of this forum - im ready to learn.

I've already got a few questions, so maybe they'll get answered.

Welcome to BYC, Jackie. Glad you decided to our flock. If sheer egg production is your primary goal, I would suggest getting Black Sex Links (Black Stars) which are hardy and friendly, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Whatever breeds or hybrids you decide to get, good luck with your flock.
