I am interested in some mille fleur insight on the down color and what folks think. We are working towards a mille/jubilee colored Orpington. I was looking through the cochin chick pics in another thread and noticed some look similar, but I also know mille can present itself in various ways from very light to very dark chick down. Can anyone explain the differences in chick down on mille pattern chicks?

Don't mind the little araucana chick hanging out with them.

Here are some more and they are not all the same but in the end all have the Milli pattern as adults.. these are Pyncheon bantam chicks
all the chicks in this pic are Milli and one is porcelain..USA standard colors..

We are hoping others can post some pic's here as well to see there chick down colors in the Milli patterns..for comparison if possible..

I'll try to post some pics of ours at some point.
The down colours you are seeing are eWh, eb & e+. The dark brown colour are eb & I'm told the nicest mille fleur pattern is on this down. The yellow/orange coloured chicks (with or without stripes) are usually eWh & those which are a lighter brown with eye stripes & beige dorsal stripes are e+. But some heterozygous chicks can look intermediate.
There is thought that the really tidy even mille fleur pattern, seen in some of the pretty bantams, is a combinations of spangling i.e. Pg-Ml-Db with Mh & mo. Whereas the more random mille fleur type pattern of say a speckled Sussex is said to be Co with Mh & mo. However ours have had what appears to be Pg & other genes segregating out.

I've been having some more ideas recently & we're thinking of running a couple of other ideas alongside our current birds to look at the outcome.

Did you all see the tollbunt wyandotte article....basically a laced bird with mottling. http://www.chickencolours.com/TollbuntWyanEng.

Thanks everyone and I appreciate the insight. I find the mille fleur color quite interesting and confusing all at the same time. I'd love to see more pics of other mille fleur pattern chicks, regardless of breed. For now, we'll just enjoy ours and watch them grow to see how they turn out. I have another hatch next week, so expecting more of the same.

I thought it may be interesting to some to see pics as they grow. Here are the babies at 10 days old.
