I just saw my first Green Jungle fowl. WOW, what a comb and waddles. Purple, yellow, red.. awesome. Does anyone, better yet can anyone.. raise these birds in captivity and if so, can they cross breed with other domestic fowl. With all the breeds we have, and will all the birds that have come from so many countries to the US, I guess Im a bit amazed that we don't have birds that have been crossed or that have these colorful combs.
Can anyone fill me in on this breed here in the US?

Yes they are amazing looking birds. But they are actally more of a pheasant than chicken, I believe they are arial nesters as well. I know there is a man here in Georgia that raises them, and there is a member her on BYC that has them I believe, if not them, I'm pretty sure he has the Reds, Greys, and Cyelons. Let me find that guy for you.

And contact Boggy Bottom Bantams if he doesn't pop in here soon when he sees Jungle Fowl in the title, I believe he used to have some and is probably getting some more sometime. I really want some Greys.

TommyVT05 was our BYC member that has Jungle Fowl but he only has reds and greys. Boggy Bottom Bantams can tell you the guy in north Georgia that I think has all of them.

I just read a couple of interesting articles on Green Jungle Fowl. They have been hybridized with domestic chickens, but the hybrids (like mules) are usually sterile. Feathersite mentions that some common mild chicken diseases are fatal to GJF, so they shouldn't be kept together. I agree though... beautiful birds!
