My son with his 21 week old white layer. She will lay calmly in his lap for 15 minutes or more at a time. In this photo he has been hand feeding her peas and with a side of water.

She has also been providing us with an egg a day for the last couple of weeks. Our other two, a Blue Swedish and a Buff, started laying a few weeks ago, but then stopped after a couple of weeks. Maybe because the days are getting shorter? Is it normal for spring ducklings to start laying in the fall for a couple of weeks and then stop for winter? Could they just be taking a short break and then will start up again soon?

Adorable photo, thanks for sharing! :love

My ducks chose a variety of egg schedules for their first fall/winter. A couple took 1-2 months off. A few layed a few times a week. And one layed daily all year.

No one lays during molting, though. And now that they are older (5.5 and 6.5) they don't lay during winter. I'm happy with that. They are pets.
