Don't laugh at me for the dumb questions, please! I have no experiance with quail, although I have read the stickies at the top. All of these are aboug courniux quail.

Here goes....

Do girls need a rooster to lay eggs?

How big do they get?

How big are their eggs?

Are they noisy?

How much room do they get?

If you don't get Jumbo, they won't get health problems, right? We're vegetarians and anything we have is a pet.

How often do lay eggs?

Is there any hatcheries that sells small amounts of quail?

Are they freindly?

Whats an ideal cage setup?

Thanks!

Do girls need a rooster to lay eggs? NO.

How big do they get? Each species is different, however somewhere between 1/2 to 1+ pound. Depends on breed.

How big are their eggs? About an inch long, give or take an 1/8th.

Are they noisy? If you keep a lot of them, yes they can be loud.

How much room do they get? Again depends of the species you are keeping. However 1 to 4 square foot per bird. More the better.

If you don't get Jumbo, they won't get health problems, right? We're vegetarians and anything we have is a pet. ALL birds are susceptible to health problems.

How often do lay eggs? Depends on the individual bird and it's health. Generally at least several a week.

Is there any hatcheries that sells small amounts of quail? Most hatcheries sell them by the 100 count. You can hatch your own, get chicks at feed stores or check the breeders directory here in the stickies for folks that may ship you chicks.

Are they freindly? They are not like chickens, however some breeds do get somewhat friendly. Quail generally do not like to be held or touched and do not come running like drooling puppies. However they can be friendly enough to eat from your hand.

Whats an ideal cage setup? You can check the stickies here as there are several pics of pens. You can also keep them in an aviary setting.

Thanks! Good luck!!

What are stickies? I want to learn more about my quails too! I think it is cool that your quail are pets. I'm not a vegetarian, but wish I was sometimes. I could never eat one of my friends. My quail are really sweet. They will eat out of my hand and like to be held and petted. they sing to me too and sound like little crickets when they are very happy. Mine lay little spotted eggs everyday. One time I didn't find one and it got kind of rotten and stinky under my bed, so be sure to find your eggs everyday. they are like a little gift from your little feathered friends.

Stickies are are the top of the quail forum. "The first thread". The stickies are all of the basics on raising quail.

Ok, I have read a lot of the stickies and some are showing some really good pictures. now I'm confused. I got 2 quail that the guy at the feed store told me were pharaohs, I got a 1 white and 1 brown and white.

The ones in the pictures called pharaoh don't look like mine at all by the color. the one in the picture is all brown and stuff. So what kind do I have? did that guy lie to me? pleeze help!

I am not expert by any means but you probably have an english white and a tuxedo which are just different color variations of a coturnix quail. The person that sold them to you was probably just misinformed. Did you see the pictures in the stickies of the the other colors? Do they look similar to any of them? The only way to be sure would be to post some pictures in here for everyone to see.

My quailies do look close to the some of the pictures. I will try to get mine to hold still after lunch and take there picture. Thanks so much for wanting to help me. i hope that guy at the feed store didn't try to trick me on purpose. I really
