Why is it that when u incubate eggs u have to stand them up big end up? When a hen sets on eggs they r laying down. Whats the difference here?

you lay them down unless your using egg trays in your bator. The idea is to keep the air cell on top while incubating.

Why not make a rotater that lays eggs down

Some incubators do just that but the normal turners work an the are cheaper to make.

I suspect turners were designed this way to maximize the number of eggs that can fit in the incubator. You get a lot more eggs in the same space if they're standing up on end than if they're laying on their sides.
